Hero/Villain Animation

  1. The use of movement in this animation is unique because it was not made with pencil. The characters have a much more visual weight to them. They move through the frame very smoothly, whereas in the other animations the characters' movements were very choppy and not very smooth. In one shot, the characters walk across the screen at the same time, creating overlapping action. Parallel movement occurs when Nerd Boy punches the presents out of the hands of The Boyfriend's hands, and they go flying out of the screen. The use of mood and tone create a cohesive story, and all of the elements add up to one theme. The hero and villains are on opposite ends of the spectrum leading them to battle each other. Very well done.

  2. The first thing that I would like to talk about is the COLORING of this hero/villain duo. The CONTRAST does a fantastic job of setting up the differences between the nerd and the sorority girl. We immediately understand that the girl isn't necessarily a villain, but most definitely different from the hero. Both characters share an AFFINITTY is that they are built in a similar world, but beyond that, they are completely different in motivation.
The LIGHTING makes nerd boy seem very mysterious, yet cliche. He is your typical hero at first glance. It is only after we watch him that we find out that he is a bumbling idiot who feels the need to use his powers for the wrong reasons. The MOOD is mildly influenced by the lighting, but, once again, only plays a minor role.
Perhaps the most entertaining element is the MOVEMENTS among the characters and the way nerd boy "swoops in" and the girl sort of lumbers along, unsuspectingly. They definitely CONTRAST in their movements but they have that cartoonish feel about them that is quite funny and very well done. Good job.
